収録曲は、19世紀前半から21世紀までの3世紀にわたるコンポーザー＝ピアニストの系譜を時代順にたどる構成となっている。リスト、ショパン、ツェルニーら同時代の作曲家6人が自慢の腕を競い合ったユニークな合作「ヘクサメロン」、リストの強力なライヴァルで、彼との“ピアノの決闘”で知られるタールベルク、ショパンと同時代とは信じられないほど斬新な作品を生み出していたアルカン、現代を含め古今東西で最高のピアニストと言われる独学の超人ゴドフスキー、恐ろしく複雑かつ長大な作品を書きながら一切発表しなかった奇人ソラブジ、驚くべきカリスマ性を兼ね備えたアメリカの剛腕ピアニスト・ルーウェンサール（レーヴェンタール）、そして21世紀の今日、世界のピアノマニアを熱狂させているマルク＝アンドレ・アムラン。特にソラブジ、ルーウェンサール、アムランの録音は世界的にも貴重で、もちろん本邦初録音である（それ以外もタールベルクを除きすべて本邦初録音）。 西村の演奏は技巧だけに溺れず、抜群のリズム感と色彩感、繊細にコントロールされた音色で、難しさを超えた所にあるピアノ音楽の頂点の輝きを見事に引き出している。
Eiji Nishimura is an exceptional pianist indeed. The pieces he selects for his recitals are hardly those known as classical masterpieces, yet his stunning performance instantly captivates the audience and entices them into the wonders of those lesser known pieces. Nishimura's outstanding rhythm and splashes of color, carved out with his delicately controlled touch, mark his unparalleled uniqueness ? a quality which may be the fruit of his unorthodox musical education.

He has won awards in numerous piano competitions, including first place in Division A of the International Amateur Piano Competition 2016, first place in the 36th PTNA Piano Competition Grand Muse division (category B2), and first place in the 1st Tokyo Piano Competition. He focuses his repertoire on contemporary music and the gems of composer-pianists of the Golden Age, and has given the Japan premiers of Olivier Messiaen's Prelude (1964), La dame de Shalott, Morceau de lecture a vue (Dechiffrage I), Michael Habermann's A la maniere de Sorabji: ‘Au clair de la lune', and Kenneth Leighton's Five Studies, Op. 22-1, 3, 5.
